Nine-and-a-half-year-old student Niu Ziru wote a letter to president Xi Jinping earlier this week, as part of a writing project assigned by his school in Zhengzhou, Henan Province.
Hoping to share his passion for space travel with the national leader, the fourth-grader (and perhaps future taikonaut) implores Xi to push for a Mars landing mission ASAP, before touching upon the recent APEC summit in Beijing.
Niu opines that Xi has great presidential airs but, unfortunately, he's "just a little bit fat."
However he helpfully suggests: "Big Daddy Xi, you can lose some weight!"
"You don't have to be as skinny as Obama," he assures Xi, "just like Putin is OK."
When Ziru's father read his son's letter to the nation's leader, he (quite rightly) thought it was hilarious and posted the image on WeChat, where it was furiously shared and rapidly went viral.
Local paper Zhengzhou Evening News picked up the story soon thereafter, and ran an article on the endearing epistle.
When government censors got wind of it, however, they were apparently the only ones not amused.
The Zhengzhou Evening News story has since been taken down, and concurrently deleted from major national news outlets as well.
