APEC: Where worlds collide. Despite being massive trading partners, geographic neighbors and occasional island-feuders, China and Japan's top leaders had never met. Until today.

This short clip from today's APEC conference is the first face-to-face meeting of Xi Jinping and Shinzo Abe; well, more like face-to-shoulder. Abe, as we can see, has finally decided on a perfect greeting, and begins speaking to Xi as soon as he gets close. There's even a peek of a smile at about 00:09.

But alas, no dice. Unless Abe's greeting was "Please keep a straight face and then look away from me mid-sentence," its safe to say that Xi was not amused. Maybe next time.
