A phone shop in Singapore reportedly refunded SGD 1,010 to a Chinese customer last month in thousands of coins after they duped her into paying SGD 3,000 for an iPhone 6 plus and she asked for the amount she was overcharged back.
The bag of five- and ten-cent coins weighted in at 18 kilograms, and took the woman two hours to pick up, because on top of paying the refund in coins, the scumbag shop owner then flung the bag to the shop floor.
The woman, surnamed Zhou, told reporters that she had agreed to pay SGD 1,800, but the shop charged her an additional SGD 2,400 for “insurance.” They eventually convinced her to part with SGD 3,000. She later changed her mind and filed a complaint at the Consumers Association of Singapore (CASE) and the Small Claims Tribunal, which decided that Zhou should receive a SGD 1,000 refund and an additional SGD 10 for costs.
According to media reports, seven attempts had been made by Zhou’s aunt to collect the refund, but the shop assistants refused to hand over the money.
Zhou told Lianhe Wanbao that she spent four hours counting the coins, and now has 18 kilogram in coins that bank staff have refused to change into notes.
