Asian Games: China not cool with air-con conspiracy in badminton final

China’s men’s badminton team lost to the host country South Korea in Tuesday's thrilling five-match final, seeing its five-time champion's streak come to an ignominious end.

After the game, however, Chinese players lost their cool, complaining that the air conditioning in the stadium kept changing wind direction and blowing the birdy off course. The organizers’ explanation is they turned the air conditioning in the stadium on and off repeatedly in order to save power.

With Chinese netizens decrying the “power-saving” explanation as a shuttlecock and bull story, Japanese media also accused South Korea of using the AC to (air) con Team Japan in the quarter final that took place just days ago as well. They also listed the “worst sins” of the Incheon Asian Games, which included excessive bacteria in athletes’ lunches, the weather being too hot without air-conditioning, and volunteers not being properly trained.

As the disagreement continues to heat up, it looks like South Korea probably won't be winning the Host of the Year award; but it might be doing something right by bringing these two arch enemies together for once. How often do you see China and Japan agreeing on anything?
