A dispute over whether mirrors were bad luck in Henan Province turned violent Wednesday, leaving eight people dead

The incident took place around 4am in a village in Lushan County, near Pingdingshan. A 41 year old man, surnamed Li, objected to his neighbours fixing a mirror to their gate, facing his door, as he said it would bring him bad luck.

After arguing with the family, Li drew a knife and stabbed eight members of the family – three children and five adults – seven of whom died at the scene and one died later in hospital, according to Beijing News

Li later handed himself in to police.
