The former deputy chairman of the Chonqing People's Congress is being investigated for allegedly accepting bribes whilst heading a mass exodus during the Three Gorges Dam project- two years after being regarded as a victim of a high profile sex blackmail scandal.

The CPC Central Commission for Discipline Inspection (CCDI) announced the probe against the official, Tan Qiwei, over the weekend, though provided no further details. According to an unnamed Chongqing government official, Tan took bribes while relocating 1.2 million people during the building of the Three Gorges Dam.

Ironically, Tan was involved in the "honeytrap" sex scandal that transfixed China in 2012, this time as a victim of blackmail. Local businessman Xiao Ye was jailed for 10 years last July for hiring women to lure officials into lewd situations, secretly film the tryst, and then blackmail them using the sex footage.

The unnamed insider said that Tan abused his position as the city's vice mayor between 2006 and January 2013, and offered Xiao a road construction contract.

According to The National Audit Office, almost 279 million yuan ($44.6 million) of the project's relocation funds were swindled.
