A 94 year old grandmother annoyed her kidnapper so much with incessant nagging that he abandoned the abduction and let her slip away.
The unnamed 55 year old kidnapper captured the woman, surnamed Chou, whilst she was taking a walk near her home in a New Taipei City neighbourhood, Taiwan, last week. The man bundled her into a car taking her on a four hour drive, and rang her family demanding 1.4 million yuan ($231,730) for her release.
However, the man got so fed up with Chou's constant nagging about her aches and pains, that he took her to a gas station to buy medicine. The wiley woman was able to slip away whilst pretending to use the toilet, as the beaten down man bought her the drugs.
Chou even had the guts to lecture her abductor about the life choices he was making. "This is not the right way to earn money," she said. "You still have a long way to go, but I do not have much left."
Chou's family also gave the kidnapper an earful on the phone, admonishing the man for abducting such an elderly person. "She is in old age. You'd better take good care of her. You'll have enough trouble if something bad happened to her," one family member reportedly said.
The suspect has been detained by police. According to reports, he needed the money to repay a business debt.
