A spurned man has been handed a death sentence for murdering a former co-worker who rejected his romantic advances only to marry someone else three years later.

Tang Kunlun's advances were turned down by Xiao Li when they worked together at a supermarket in Changsha, Hunan Province in 2009. Tang quit his job after the snub, but started working there again three years later on April 25 2013. After learning that Xiao was returning home that day to marry someone else, he barred her from leaving the supermarket and brutally stabbed her with a fruit knife in the chest.

Tang was arrested by police later that evening.
