Chinese farmers build 40 amazing life-sized Transformers out of scrap metal

A team of farmers in Shandong province have built 40 "life-sized" Transformer sculptures from scrap metal.

Wang Shizun and Liu Xianhui oversaw a team of 11 farmers who assembled the bots, some of which sport the red and blue colours of Optimus Prime, the gallant leader of the Autobots. Other figures are modelled on the villainous Decepticons, though no clashes in the farmyard have been reported so far.

“It’s a personal hobby; I watched the movie and learnt the models online, so I wanted to make it on my own,” Wang told reporters.

Wang’s hobby has now become a business of its own, with some of the figures selling for up to 100,000 yuan ($16,000), according to tech site OFweek.

Although some of the models stand at a colossal 12 meters high and have the ability to move their arms and legs, none of them are currently operating true to their name. The ability to transform the bots back into cars has so far eluded the team.

Wang said they’re currently trying to figure out how to enable the change, “but it’s hard to make them transform into cars at this stage.”
