NBA star Dennis Rodman's recent trips to North Korea are being turned into a movie, according to the Hollywood Reporter.
The former Chicago Bulls player first visited the nation last year, before recently returning in January, his fourth trip. Both trips caused widespread press attention, and criticism of Rodman given Pyongyang's appalling human rights record. Rodman's activities included singing "Happy Birthday" to North Korean supreme leader Kim Jong-un, and enjoying lavish feasts in a nation where millions starve.
Regarding the dictator, Rodman had this to say: "He's proud, his country likes him - not like him, love him, love him [...] Guess what, I love him. The guy's really awesome."
According to the Reporter, 20th Century Fox has bought a pitch for a comedy titled Diplomats based on the pair's bromance. Producers are reportedly keen for Rodman to play himself.
In line to direct is Tim Story, whose recent work Ride Along, also a buddy comedy, was critically savaged: described by Total Film as "physically assaulting". Rodman's story is clearly in safe hands.
