Anticipation for Yehaiyahan’s (aka ChaCha, aka Faded Ghost) first release under her given name has been building for some time now, and the Shanghai-based singer and producer has not disappointed.

There is so much to love about the new record, Under the Moonlight, released globally on Los Angeles-based label Alpha Pup Records. Music videos for ‘Loving U’ and ‘Under the Moonlight’ have already been released. The former dropped almost a year ago and combined natural water-adjacent scenes with trippy visuals, while the music video for ‘Under the Moonlight’ (released in early July) shows the “daily rituals of the Yi people, an ancient Chinese minority,” according to culture site Nowness. The new album also features former Beijing, now LA-based producer Soulspeak and Chunyang Yao, a composer of Naxi descent who mixes field recordings with drone and ambient sounds.

With the eight-track Under the Moonlight just days old, Yehaiyahan dropped another gem, Faraway Roots, a documentary which goes deeper in explaining the origins of the Guizhou born musician’s wish to take on a new phase in her music career.

The documentary follows Yehaiyahan’s trip to New York and SXSW. It is at once a confessional and a meditation on the benefits of travel. She links up with fellow Found Sound China alumni Jamel Mims/Jam No Peanut/MC Tingbudong and Kayla Briet in New York, before jetting off to take the stage in Austin, Texas.

Anyway, our words don’t really do the documentary justice. Watch below and enjoy (VPN off)
