A direct high-speed train between Tianjin and Hong Kong was launched Wednesday morning, according to Xinhua.
The G305 bullet train departed from Tianjin at 10.58am with approximately 1,100 passengers and arrived at Hong Kong’s West Kowloon Station 10 hours later. Second class tickets for the cross-country trip can be purchased for RMB1,092.5 (USD159).
“The train tickets immediately sold out after the launch,” said Ren Honguan, deputy chief of Tianjin West Railway Station.
The new 2,450-kilometer route runs through Baiyangdian Station in the Xiongan New Area, among other stations. Xiongan New Area is a new national economic zone in Hebei province about 100 kilometers southwest of Beijing, which will take over the capital city’s ‘noncapital functions,’ according to Caixin Global.
The train service is another cog in the newly implemented national diagram, which will utilize a number of adjusted stops to optimize the country’s passenger transport services. The diagram will also put into use a batch of newly commissioned high-speed trains.
According to China Railway Beijing Group, the Tianjin-Hong Kong train service can play an important role in the development of Xiongan and the Greater Bay Area.
