Chinese Robber Returns Cash After Seeing Victim’s Bank Balance

A bank surveillance camera in South China recently captured the bizarre – yet honorable – moment a robber returns cash to a woman he’d just robbed at knife point after seeing her bank balance, which was reportedly at zero.

In the footage, the criminal, who has been identified by his surname, Deng, approaches the woman with a knife while she is withdrawing money from an ATM. The presumably terrified victim then hands over RMB2,500 she’d just taken out of her account.

The encounter doesn’t end there, though, as the man asks to see the woman’s bank balance. She obliges him, and when the robber realizes his target is flat broke, he laughs, smiles and hands her back the cash.

According to numerous reports online, the incident happened in the prefecture-level city of Heyuan, in Guangdong province, sometime last month.

Deng allegedly needed the money because he did not have a “permanent job.” He has since been apprehended and detained by local police.
