Each Day 400 People Miss Flights From Shenzhen During Chunyun

If you are planning on catching a flight from Bao’an International Airport this Spring Festival, make sure you arrive on time!

An average of 400 people have missed their flights each day since January 21. Reasons cited for this very large number include the unusually long lines at the security and baggage checkpoints, according to Southern Metropolis Daily.

Around 80 percent of passengers managed to check in for their flight on time during the holiday period, but did not leave themselves with a comfortable enough window to complete security and baggage checks, or make the approximately 20-minute journey to their assigned gate.

Other reasons cited for passengers missing their flights include arriving at the airport at the wrong time, which has accounted for about three percent of those who missed their flights. Passengers have also been found placing prohibited items in their luggage, which requires a double-check and a longer waiting time.

With the rush for flights during Chinese New Year now in full flow, lines at Bao’an International Airport have swollen considerably. On January 29 alone, 23,000 passengers boarded flights leaving Shenzhen.

In an article by China Aviation Resources, China Southern Airlines kindly reminded passengers that seats on flights are almost fully booked and that passengers should pack luggage correctly, reserve enough time to make it to their gate and be aware of the plane’s departure time.
