Guangzhou Long-Lion's 3-Game Win Streak Ends after Xinjiang Loss

The Guangzhou Long-Lions saw their three-game win streak come to an end on Thursday night after a tough loss to Xinjiang Flying Tigers, 100-89. The savvy Southern squad had been on a recent tear, outscoring their previous three opponents by an average of 34 points.

However, last night the Long-Lions found themselves playing from behind most of the game as the Flying Tigers put up a solid outing on their home court. Fresh off a New Year’s Day victory against one of the CBA’s elite squads, the Guangdong Southern Tigers, Xinjiang doubled down on the Southern province, notching their seventh win in the last eight contests.

Long-Lions shooting guard Muxtar Shirelijian had quite the performance against his former team, knocking back eight three-pointers on the night and contributing 29 points. Meanwhile, American point guard Kyle Fogg also kept up his stellar play with 28 points and eight assists.

With a 15-13 record, the Guangzhou squad is currently in ninth place, only a half game back from the Shanghai Sharks (15-12).

The Long-Lions have one more away game on Sunday against the Nanjing Monkey Kings before arriving back in Guangzhou next Wednesday, January 9. Next week’s home game will mark the first game at Tianhe Gymnasium in almost a month, after the team finished 3-3 while playing a series of games at the newly-opened Foshan International Sports and Cultural Center in December.

So if you and your friends are looking for a fun local sporting event, catch the Long-Lions live next Wednesday at 7.35pm! Tickets can be purchased online or at the Tianhe Gymnasium box office.
