A man attempted to take a mother’s 2-year-old child in the middle of a bustling mall on January 1 in Shenzhen. The attempted kidnapping took place around 1.16pm on Tuesday at a shopping plaza off Longcheng Jiedao, according to Shenzhen Security Bureau. Fortunately, the man was apprehended by authorities shortly afterwards and a surveillance camera captured the entire incident.
The footage shows the middle-age stranger approach the mother and her two children, quickly snag one of her kids and abruptly walk away. The mother instantly reacts, forcefully grabbing hold of the man’s arm and taking back her child before he can creep off into the sea of people. After the child is let go, the man casually walks away as though nothing out of the ordinary has occurred. Watch the creepy scene unfold below (VPN off):
According to an announcement by Shenzhen Security Bureau on January 2, the suspect claimed he was “playing around with the child” and had no ill intentions. He also admitted to authorities that he had been drinking alcohol earlier in the day. Upon further investigation, Shenzhen authorities learned that the child snatcher had been previously treated at a hospital in his hometown for abnormal behavior. He has since been sent to a hospital to undergo further treatment and police will proceed following the suspect’s diagnosis.
