It's raining, it's pouring and it doesn't show signs of stopping anytime soon. Heavy rain has been flooding the capital since Monday, with lowland areas experiencing the most flooding and road damage.

According to Beijing Meteorological Service, average precipitation levels reached 36.6 millimeters, as reported by China Daily. The water level was 1.7 meters above the safety level in Dashuiyu Reservoir and over 700 people from Miyun, Huairou and Fangshan districts were evacuated, as reported by the city's flood control authority.

Additionally, 128 tourist sites were temporarily closed, road collapses were reported in nine areas and bridge underpasses saw heavy flooding as well. Unsuspecting cars broke down as they drove right into water bodies around the city.

With the rainfall continuing on and off throughout the day, Beijing Public Transport was even forced to adjust some bus routes and stops to avoid certain dangerous areas.

As reported by China DailyBeijing Meteorological Service's chief forecaster Zhang Linna said that the city is to expect brief but strong rainfall for the next couple of days, with hourly precipitation levels potentially reaching as high as 50 millimeters.

Not only has the city been directly affected but many flights at the Beijing Capital International Airport have also been cancelled or delayed as a result, with a 40 percent decrease in the usual traffic on Monday.
