A new web app Baogongzi (曝工资, revealing wages) lists the average wage paid to individual employees at various companies across China.
Anonymous users are limited in the number of queries they can make, but those who share their own wage information get unlimited access. The app aims to provide some transparency in a previously very opaque area. Many companies require employees to keep their salaries confidential, and job adverts often don't reflect accurate wage levels.
Users who wish to share the amount they are paid have to upload a pay sheet so the app developers can confirm the amount is genuine. Though some have expressed concerns about privacy, a Baogongzi spokesperson said that users can erase their names and other identifying information before uploading the pay sheets.
The only listings I was able to find related to 'journalism' were for the China Economic Times, based in Shenzhen. Sports writers at the paper can expect to be paid 5,000 yuan per month, according to Baogongzi, while regular staff writers only make 3,500 yuan. (I ran out of free searches before I could check many other positions.)
