Grisly video footage has surfaced online today showing a man strolling down a Guangzhou lane holding the severed head of his wife, then discarding it in a garbage bin.
According to a Weibo post by Guangzhou's Public Security Bureau, the incident happened this morning in a rental house in Kangle village, located near Sun Yat-sen University in the city’s Haizhu District.
The 31-year-old suspect – identified by his surname, Zhang – surrendered to police at 8am, according to authorities. Zhang allegedly confessed to killing his wife, 28, after a domestic dispute. No information has been released on the nature of the couple’s quarrel.
Both Zhang and his murdered wife, whose last name was Xia, originally hail from Hubei province.
Guangzhou Haizhu Police Department has stated that the case is under further investigation.
