Mass starvation, torture, and arbitrary executions: so hot right now.
Elle has named 'North Korea Chic' one of the magazine's 'fall fashion trends', saying that "some iteration of the military trend stomps the runways every few seasons. This time, it's edgier, even dangerous, with sharp buckles and clasps and take-no-prisoners tailoring."
Who wouldn't want to look like a member of the regime with one of the worst human rights records of any nation on earth? Darling, where did you get that trenchcoat? It looks positively genocidal!
Perhaps, in the days of Dennis Rodman and this prick cashing on the suffering of the North Korean people, it's too much to ask that magazines and websites avoid using the country for cheap "LOL Kim Jong-un/il" pageviews (god knows none of us are particularly innocent on this front). And perhaps it's too much to expect from an industry which regularly runs blackface editorials to have anything approaching sensitivity on these matters. But still: fuck you Elle.
NOT EVEN MUGATU did a North Korea collection.

Update November 20: Elle issued an apology after this story went viral:
"We regret the reference to North Korea in our post on the season’s military trend, and have removed the image. We apologize to those we offended."
