Travel in the Pearl River Delta, and to Guangdong’s western coastal areas, is set to become much easier – and faster – when the Shenzhen-Maoming High Speed Railway (Shenmao HSR), which runs from Shenzhen to Maoming in western Guangdong, opens in mid-2018.
Construction on the Jiangmen-Maoming section was completed earlier this week, according to an article carried by Tencent News, leaving the Shenzhen-Jiangmen portion to be completed before the rail’s projected June 2018 opening.
The 388-kilometer-long railway will link the cities of Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Dongguan, Zhongshan, Jiangmen, Yangjiang and Maoming.
According to Dongguan Today, the Shenmao HSR will start from Shenzhen North Railway Station and end its journey at Maoming East Railway Station.
The new railway will reduce the travel time from Shenzhen to Maoming from nearly seven hours to three hours. The journey to Maoming from Guangzhou will shrink from five or more hours to two-and-a-half hours.
Once finished, the train is expected to have a top speed of 200 kilometers per hour.
