Some people are happy with two legs, other people want to cruise through the ocean like a tuna – we don’t judge. The latter group (aka: mermaids) descended on Shenzhen this past Saturday, September 9, to frolic in pools at ADEX China’s Shenzhen Ocean17 Festival

Also referred to as the Shenzhen International Dive and Watersport Expo, the event featured a number of programs in addition to the ‘Mermaid Fest,’ including a film festival, freediving exhibit, watersports area and a ‘music party.’

The event was organized in conjunction with ‘mermaid schools’ in Guangzhou, Shenzhen and Hong Kong.

The mermaid portion of the expo was a first for ADEX and was expected to draw in over 200 fish-people to participate in the ‘Mermaid Challenge’ – a showcase of each mermaid’s unique character, performance and swimming skills.

A video recap of the contest was screened by the Mermaid Alliance on September 10, the final day of Shenzhen Ocean17 Festival.
