Crazy English wife-beater Li Yang is now an Amway sales rep

Cultish US-based direct sales company Amway reportedly has a new employee: Crazy English founder and all around asshole Li Yang, who announced this week he had joined the company as a salesperson.

Li – who admitted to "committing domestic violence" against his American wife Kim Lee, including slamming her head against the floor and choking her – announced on Weibo that he has joined the "global company of Amway" in order to "to pursue success and a sense of achievement, as well as to be part of a global enterprise."

Amway later confirmed that Li had applied to be a sales representative in September, but it is unclear what relationship the disgraced founder of Crazy English has with the company.

Speaking to the Global Times, analyst Shen Zheyan said Li's announcement was just attention-seeking behaviour for his own company: "The market share of Crazy English is shrinking among serious competition from other market players."

If Li really intends to work as an Amway sales rep, he may have to redefine his position at Crazy English, as Chinese law forbids teachers, doctors, and civil servants from being direct sales agents.

It's also unclear how Li, who publicly announced his conversion to Islam in November 2011, would fit in with the American company in any case. Amway has deep ties to conservative Christian groups in the US, and has been described as "fervently conservative, fervently Christian".
