A horrifying blast on a natural gas pipeline has left eight people dead and another 35 injured in Guizhou province, according to authorities cited in a Global Times report.
The explosion occurred at roughly 10am Sunday in Shazi, Qinglong county.
A preliminary investigation has revealed that after days of severe rainfall, a pipeline owned by the China National Petroleum Corporation was crushed by a landslide, causing a gas leak and subsequent explosion.
According to rescuers, the resulting fire has been extinguished and local residents evacuated, while investigation into the blast continues. Those injured are being treated at the hospital, where four are in critical condition.
