Dying Father Gives Son Grenade Instead of Inheritance in China

Shortly before dying, a penniless father in Anhui province gave his son a hand grenade in lieu of inheritance, according to the Suxi Village Police Weibo

"Your father is not alright," the father reportedly said before death. "I don't have anything to leave to you, but hold onto this thing."

The "thing" was a hand grenade, of course. But grieving man and weapon of war would not be easily parted.

A Shanghai Daily report explains the unnamed man's dilemma:

He did not want to let his dead father down if he threw the grenade away but at the same time he was worried it might explode.

As with any well-publicized China news – which includes quotes, though no reporter was present – the man did the right thing: handing the grenade over to the authorities on April 25.
