More details about the Tuesday stabbing of a Frenchman in Shenzhen's Shekou have been released.
Chinese reports have identified the victim with pseudonym John, saying he came upon two men fighting when he reportedly said, "Go home, go home. Don't do anything stupid."
The attacker, identified only with surname Zhou, had just smashed a window inside of a restaurant and was attacking staff. He had reportedly lost his new restaurant job because he showed up for his first day of work intoxicated Tuesday afternoon, according to a Sznews.com report.
According to the report, after hearing John, Zhou went into a nearby shop and bought a fruit knife before coming out to the street.
John subdued Zhou, but suffered knife wounds to the head, back and left arm, including a cut to an artery in the wrist, according to Sznews.com. After a 3-hour surgery on Tuesday, he is expected to make a full recovery.
After John subdued the knife-wielding man, at least two other men pinned the attacker down, according to the Shenzhen Daily.
"The boy had his father's blood on his pants," a social worker from Shekou's soon-to-open Management and Service Center for Expats is quoted by Shekou Daily as saying, after visiting the family while the injured man was in surgery.
The Shenzhen Nanshan Security Bureau released a statement on Tuesday saying the police are applying to 'the relevant departments' for a commendation or award for the French citizen in recognition of his bravery.
John has been a Shekou resident since 2010.
