At around 9am on March 1, a customer in a McDonald’s in Xiaobei, Guangzhou heard a distressed baby’s cry coming from the establishment’s bathroom and notified the branch manager.
Upon receiving the alert, the manager approached the stall, where he then heard a woman yelling for help.
Customers report seeing the manager emerge moments later carrying an infant in his arms.
An ambulance promptly arrived to the scene and rushed the woman and her newborn to the No. 1 People’s Hospital of Guangzhou.
According to hospital staff, the woman and infant are in good health following the unexpected birth in a McDonald’s bathroom stall.
The article carried by Tencent News attributes the sudden birth to ‘anxiousness’ on the part of the pregnant woman, and proceeds to give five tips to expecting mothers in an effort to help them ‘calm down’ and avoid the ostensible pain of giving birth in a fast-food restaurant.
It’s still unclear, however, whether the woman was indeed just nervous or was suffering from severe medical complications.
“The kid should be able to eat at McDonald’s for free!” joked one Chinese netizen upon reading the story.
“If this child ever asks where he comes from, you could honestly reply: ‘you were picked from a toilet’ – which is what many families used to joke...” commented another.
One thing is for sure: this woman has been through a hell of a lot (have you visited a Mickey D’s bathroom stall in China recently?) and we’re happy to hear she is recovering well.
