Seventy-seven people were arrested in connection with organized prostitution at three exclusive nightclubs in the capital, Beijing police announced on Tuesday. Officers detained the suspects on December 23, during raids at Baoli Club, Landai Club and Lihai Mingyuan Club, which were all suspected of participating in prostitution. All three venues were ordered to close following last year's raids.

An employee at the Baoli Club said that police arrived at 8pm on the night of the incident and detained roughly 60 people, including waiters and guards, the Legal Mirror reports.

According to employees at the Landai Club police arrived between 8-9pm and hauled away over 300 employees – over 100 of them were women.

According to this report, a job ad on Baoli’s website offers hostesses (aged 16 to 28) RMB1,000-1,500 per night.

The Lihai reportedly provides patrons with shows featuring scantily clad women. And Baoli, an exclusive private club, is said to be frequented by executives, South China Morning Post reports.

According to the report, patrons spend an average of RMB3500 (USD510) – in addition to tipping hostesses roughly RMB1,500 – during visits. It is suspected that guests pay anywhere from RMB5,000 to RMB8,000 for prostitutes.

The story has received a lot of attention in China for its connection to the Baoli name. The China Poly Group, which has the same Chinese name as Baoli Club, has released a statement saying that the state-owned conglomerate has no connection with the club.
