At the end of the month one Beijing couple will embark the journey of their lives. And no, we’re not talking about marriage folks. Zhang Xinyu and Liang Hong are gearing up to fly around the world on an 80,000-kilometer trip. And if they achieve their goal, the couple will become the first pilots to navigate a Chinese plane around the world.
They are planning to take off from Harbin in less than two weeks’ time. Their journey will take them across 23 countries, five continents and three oceans. During their trip, the duo will fly roughly 80,000 kilometers, which is twice the distance typically covered during round-the-world flights.
The couple is not only looking to explore the world, they are also hoping that their journey will help others to have a better understanding of China.
The majority of the countries Zhang and Liang will be visiting during their once-in-a-lifetime trip do not require visas for Chinese citizens. Among the many visa-free countries the couple will touch down in are Peru, Chile, Togo, the Seychelles, Cambodia and Thailand.
Zhang and Liang have been traveling the world together since 1998. So far they’ve visited over 100 countries. Not only will they be the first people to circumnavigate the earth on a Chinese plane, but they are already the first Chinese people to have crossed South Africa on a helium balloon and the first to dive in Mexico’s Sacred Cenote.
Talk about a life well lived.
