On November 25, friends of a missing student took to social media to ask for the public’s help in locating their classmate. The out-of-province female student, Xiao Fang, is currently enrolled at the Guangzhou University of Foreign Studies and was last seen leaving her dorm on the university’s surveillance footage at 7.20pm on November 23.
On November 28, a female body was found on the Guangzhou University of Foreign Studies’ campus lake, according to some news sources, while other sources claim the body was hanging off the bridge over the lake.
It wasn’t until November 29 that the body was identified as Xiao Fang by her parents who flew in from Fujian province. Investigators are still looking into the cause of her death. Students from the university believe that she committed suicide, but the deceased girl’s parents don’t understand why she would.
“She was always very independent. Coming from a small village in Fujian, our family had to work very hard for her to attend university in Guangzhou,” her father is reported as saying. “As the eldest daughter, she wouldn't leave without taking care of her younger siblings."
Coincidentally, on the same day the body was identified, a male student from Guangdong University of Technology also went missing. He is described as being about 1.78 meters tall with a slim build, Chaoshan accent and as wearing black-rimmed glasses. If you have any information, please contact Ms. Lu at 186 6448 8870.
