Escalator Falls Apart at Guangzhou Metro Station

Images and video began circulating on social media today showing a Guangzhou Metro escalator with concerning gaps between steps (concerning because, you know, occasionally a Chinese escalator eats someone).

The incident reportedly occurred yesterday, when a loose screw fell out of a commuter’s suitcase on a Changgang Metro Station (Line 2) escalator and slipped into a gap between the steps.

While we're not engineers and cannot comment on how exactly the screw created the damage visible in the images circulating online, we can report that no one was injured in the incident.

According to Tencent News, the damaged escalator is back up and running.
