On November 23, Guangdong got snow! Not in the major megalopolises of Guangzhou or Shenzhen (although both saw cooler weather), but in Lianshan Zhuang and Yao Autonomous County in the northern portion of the province.
According to Tencent News, the snow began around 1pm – evolving from slushy rain that started around noon. The county experienced a low of 0 degrees Celsius, which also resulted in ice and, naturally, some pretty spectacular photos of ice…
The snowfall is the second this year for Lianshan Zhuang and Yao Autonomous County, the first being back in January when Guangzhou also experienced a light dusting of the white stuff.
While freezing temperatures are not on the horizon for Guangzhou or Shenzhen any time soon, both cities can expect cooler weather in the coming days.
Guangzhou will reach a high of 16 degrees Celsius today with a low of 12, while tomorrow the high will be 13 with a low of 11, according to The Weather Channel.
Shenzhen will fare only slightly better, with a high of 19 today and a low of 14. Tomorrow the city will experience a high of 16 degrees Celsius and a low of 12.
Both cities can expect rain tomorrow, so stock up on pirated DVDs or possibly plan to watch Mad Sheila (a Chinese ripoff of Mad Max) – which began streaming today.
Although Lianshan’s cold experience has nothing on Beijing this week, it’s always a bit of a surprise when ice and snow arrive in subtropical Guangdong.
