In August, 200 monocled cobras escaped from the farm after slipping through cracks in its foundation, which had been battered by rain. The farmer, Qin Guorong, kept quiet about the incident, and it wasn't until earlier this month that the local government learned about the mass escape after a resident discovered and killed a baby snake he found at home last week.

While 150 of the snakes have been caught or killed, around 50 remain on the loose.

A total of 1,820 monocled cobra eggs were brought to the area in August, of which 1,500 hatched.

The baby cobras are venomous, but less toxic than mature snakes. And with winter approaching, authorities don't expect the cobras to survive the harsh, chilly conditions.
