645 People Miss Flights in Guangzhou Due to National Day Traffic

At least 645 passengers missed flights at Guangzhou’s Baiyun International Airport yesterday after getting stuck in a serious traffic jam on the Guangzhou Airport Expressway, according to media reports.

As of 10am on October 1, traffic headed towards the airport was backed up 15 kilometers and described as moving “slowly.” Both Baiyun International Airport and the airlines affected by the late passengers brought in additional staff to help issue refunds.

While the number of people who missed flights yesterday due to traffic may seem high, it should come as no surprise based on predictions this year’s October public holiday will be the busiest on record – with over 600 million people traveling.

Let this serve as a reminder to those of you traveling this week: leave early or face carmageddon.
