A flood alert has been issued over the weekend by Shanghai's flood prevention authority.
Due to the incoming typhoon Malakas and tides, water levels on the Huangpu have exceeded warning levels, causing authorities to shut the city's flood gates.
As Malakas, the 16th major typhoon this year, moves along the east coast of China, weather forecasters have issued orange alerts for waves and yellow alerts for storms, reporting an expectation of waves up to nine meters high in the East China Sea.
Shanghai's flood warning is a blue alert - the lowest on the system - but could change due to the typhoon coinciding with the eight major tide in Shanghai this year.
Flood prevention officials will be patroling the area and inspecting the dams constantly to ensure safety.
Water's not the ony thing to watch out for though. Residents can expect strong winds - up to 40 kilometers per hour - this evening. Stay safe and keep your eyes on the sky!
