Film: The Shallows

The Shallows

Blake Lively stars as surfer who travels to Mexico to catch some waves and clear her mind following her mother’s death. However, she finds herself in peril once she’s in the water - stranded 200 yards from shore with great white sharks on the attack. Released in America this summer, the survival horror film cracked the coveted USD100 million mark - particularly impressive since it was made for USD17 million. In theaters now.

Music: Wanderlust - Neo-Taste

The Tianjin electro-duo makes up for lost time, following up its 2011 debut record with this epic double album. Already Wanderlust has been produced by P.K. 14’s Yang Haisong and were signed to Modern Sky. For Neo-Taste, they’ve linked up with D Force Records, who have been on an epic run with recent stalwart releases by Duck Fight Goose and DOC. Available at Wanderlust’s Bandcamp.

Podcast: Worm Island

Worm Island

Suzhou has something to say! That’s at least according to the Worm Island podcast, which has finished its 13-episode first season. With characters loosely based on the 1970s show The Fantastic Journey, it features interviews with some of the city’s resident fixtures from samurai aiki-jujutsu instructors to local musicians who have suddenly gone viral. Available at wormisland.com.

TV: Halt & Catch Fire

Halt & Catch Fire

Le scores the exclusive streaming rights to the critically acclaimed AMC drama. Set in the Silicon Prairie of Texas starting in 1983, Halt and Catch Fire explores the era’s personal computer revolution and the colorful characters whose technical innovations would drastically change the way we live. TV: Limitless

Limitless

Bradley Cooper and Robert DeNiro’s hit 2011 film about a man who takes a mysterious drug that allows him to fully utilize the full potential of the brain has been adapted for television. Although Cooper cameos as now Senator Eddie Morra, the show follows the adventures of Brian Finch (Jake McDorman), a struggling musician who after taking the powerful pill, assists an FBI agent who are unaware that he’s been given an immunity shot from the Senator to counteract its dangerous side effects. Streamable at Le.com.
