The YinYang Music Festival is Heading Back to the Great Wall

The YinYang Music Festival is back for its third instalment. And from the sound of it it’s bound to be a good time. Plus, who doesn’t love a music festival that’s located on the Great Wall?

The YinYang Festival is happening this week (from September 15-18), just in time for the holiday and will take place on the authentic Huang Ya Guan section of the Great Wall.

True to its name, the YinYang Festival is all about bringing people from all corners of the world together through music. The festival's organizers are big boosters of the Chinese alternative electronic music scene. They started the festival back in 2014 to create a place where young artists could show off their stuff and veterans could perform for fans.

For this year's festival, artists from around China and around the world are making their way to Beijing to perform. Headliners include HVOB (Austria), Peer Kusiv (Germany), Citizen Kain (France), Sulumi (China), Fre4knc (The Netherlands), Lydmor (Denmark), Denmark and Dither (The Netherlands).

Citizen Kain produces a sharp techno that’s invariably wavy and contemporary.

Sulumi is one of the most influential and renewing Chinese electronic music artists of the last decades. Sulumi gained international recognition in 2003 with his 8-Bit album “Stereo Chocolate” where he mixes electronic music live with computer sounds while playing Gameboy.

HVOB are Anna Müller and Paul Wallner. Since forming in 2013, the duo have established themselves on the international electronic music scene not just with their releases, but more significantly as a live act as well. HVOB perform live on stage and always with a drummer.

This North German electronic music artist has developed into a big name in the European music scene after launching his successful debut album 'Nature & Techno.' His pieces combine classical instruments with dark synth sounds, nurtured by different musical genres.

There will be around 30 China-based performers. Live acts include Bass Guo & Ouyang, Hielektromen, Punx and QQ. Other performers include Ambivalenz, Mantis, Mr. & Ms. Hell and tons more.

There will be three incredible stages set up on and around the wall. The daytime stage is located on top of the Great Wall. (We’ve heard that the sunrise is especially amazing from there.) The nighttime stage will be set up at the foot of the wall, and the main stage will be decked out with 3D mapping visuals created by live visual artists.

Aside from three days of musical acts, there will also be a culture and art exchange coop set up by the Dutch, French and Austrian governments. Tai chi and yoga lessons will also be offered. Festival goers will also be able to either camp out or book a room at a hotel located inside the ancient courtyard of the Great Wall.
