After a couple months reserved for Mainland made blockbusters, China’s cinemas are welcoming back foreign films with big budget films like Jason Bourne coming soon. On the more low-key end is this acclaimed animated fantasy drama by Tomm Moore, who crafted The Secret of Kells. Despite its limited release, Song of the Sea has won wide rave reviews including an Academy Award nomination with the 2014 film slowly making its ways to cinemas around the world. Opens nationwide on August 14.

It's been five years since the Shanghai electronic-rock standouts released their fine full-length debut, Sports on Maybe Mars. Now after an excruciating wait, they're finally releasing the follow-up. Now signed to the Douban affiliated D Force Records, the quartet have put away the guitars for a sci-fi electronic concept album taking place in a futuristic version of their hometown, following a "highly advanced cyborg looking for humanity and the ability to groove." The heady album comes to life at the Limbic Man album release shows with labelmates DOC in Shanghai (Aug 12 @ MAO Livehouse) and Beijing (Aug 20 @ Tango). For more, check out our feature on Duck Fight Goose. Will be available from August 12. Stay tuned for details on D Force's Douban.

Music: DOC - Northern Electric Shadow

Rising out of the ashes of Dalian indie noise rockers Doc Talk Shock, Dalian Obscure Club showcases a band that's a bit maturer while remaining as in love with the music as their younger days. While the band has quietly been convening in their coastal hometown, they've linked with D Force Records for their debut as DOC. Northern Electric Shadow boasts a more stately sound with new influences ranging from post-rock to cinematic scores. Check out DOC's album release show with labelmates Duck Fight Goose in Shanghai (Aug 12 @ MAO Livehouse) and Beijing (Aug 20 @ Tango). For more, check out our feature on DOC. Will be available from August 12. Stay tuned for details on D Force's Douban.

Music: Kafe Hu

Chengdu's music scene has been buzzing in recent years and the abstract emcee is poised to join Hiperson and Stolen as among the city's most popular exports. After steady mixtape releases, Kafe Hu has finally unleashed his proper full-length debut. Recorded over the past three years, 27: The Code of Lucifer finds the rhymer linking with notable producers like Soulspeak while expanding his jazz-based sound to new avant-garde parameters. He's touring the nation in support, stopping off in Shenzhen (Aug 12 @ B10), Guangzhou (Aug 13 @ Fei Livehouse), Shanghai (Aug 19 @ On Stage) and Beijing (Aug 27 @ School). Available on Taobao
