On the night of August 1, when many Shenzheners were stocking up on food and double-checking weather reports, one man decided to go through with his plan for an elaborate beachside proposal. As most people know by now, the storm was not nearly as extreme as originally believed, but we are blown away by his dedication nonetheless.
The scene took place on Kuichong Beach, near Dapeng Peninsula. As the wind rose and rain began to fall, he went down on one knee and popped the question to his former middle school classmate.
But because he had a flair for the dramatic, it was a little more complicated than that.
First, he shone a spotlight down on his girlfriend, whom he'd been dating for six months. Bystanders began pulling out their phones for the show.
After gifting his beloved a gigantic bouquet of roses and making her stand inside a heart made of lightbulbs, he arranged for a drone to bring the ring over in a basket. Because why not?
As he got down on one knee, sparklers burst into life. Trapped between fireworks on one side and people on the other, she clearly had no choice but to say yes.
Friends were recruited to carry neon signs in the background as the couple awkwardly leaned in for a kiss.
Afterwards, carrying what appeared to be a karaoke microphone, the man made an impromptu speech to the crowd that had gathered. It was the perfect ending to the cheesy yet ultimately successful stunt.
"Our love weathered a level 14 typhoon," the man was heard saying proudly.
