Shanghai Maritime University (SMU) student Xu Bin has recently been charged with the murder of his former girlfriend Zhou Ting, another student at SMU. Shanghai Daily reports that a break up gone sour resulted in some hostility between the couple that eventually escalated into Xu threatening to harm Zhou and her new boyfriend.
After a final attempt at reconciliation and some cryptic, yet suspicious posts on his QQ account ("What’s coming is coming, and can’t be avoided"), Xu took the knife, bottle of hydrofluoric acid, and six bottles of alcohol he had purchased a month prior to cause some horrendous damage.
In late April, after a confrontation with Zhou and her new boyfriend resulted in them threatening to call the police, Xu poured acid on Zhou and stabbed her several times. She passed away as a result of hemorhagic shock hours later.
