A car exploded earlier this afternoon at around noon along Yan'an Zhong Lu near Shaanxi Nan Lu, resulting in a visible fire and large plumes of smoke. At least two firetrucks, a dozen police officers and around 20 firefighters rushed to the scene, according to the Shanghai Observer.

Shawn Kregan, who provided That's Shanghai with the video below, describes what happened:
"I was just riding my motorbike when I saw some smoke, and a little bit of glass flew by my bike so I slammed on the brakes and looked up with the phone and then there was an explosion and more glass flying around.
"I asked people what happened and they said there was a fuel leak in the car and it just got too hot and exploded. There was somebody in the car but they got out with minor burns before it got too bad."

The area was temporarily closed but is now open for regular public use. The cause of the explosion is currently under investigation by authorities.
