The uniforms were designed by Masha Ma, a Beijing-based fashion designer and one of China's most talented fashion creatives. (Her Shanghai studio, Ma by Maopened earlier last year).

They're a huge step up from the 'Tomato and Egg' opening ceremony outfits that were widely mocked by netizens last month.

Li-Ning, the Chinese athleticwear company named after China's first Olympic gold medalist Li Ning, will be providing the uniforms for the Indian team this year. They also provided the table tennis uniforms for the Chinese national team in 2012.
