Shenzhen Driving Instructor Busted for 'Drunk Driving'

In the early hours of the morning on June 19, a man was pulled over by Shenzhen traffic police on the interchange section of Xiangmihu Lu and Binhe Da Dao. As authorities suspected, his breathalyzer results showed that he was under the influence while driving.

It would have been a normal, if unfortunate, incident, except for one surprising twist: the man was an instructor at a local driving school. In fact, he had been on the way to work, carrying two students along with him in the school's car, when he was stopped by police.

The first line of the post reads: "Do you dare to drive with this kind of instructor?"

A couple of posts on the official Weibo account of Shenzhen Public Security Bureau's Traffic Police Detachment explained the details of the incident.

Apparently the man had been drinking late the night before. When he got up early the next morning to transport the students to his workplace around 5am, the alcohol hadn't completely left his system yet. In fact, police revealed that his blood alcohol measurement came out to be 51 milligrams per 100 milliliters. Unfortunately for our fun-loving driving instructor, the legal blood alcohol concentration (BAC) level in China is 0.02 percent – meaning he was well over the legal limit.

Although in countries like the US or UK, driving at this level of intoxication wouldn't be considered illegal behavior, the effect of the alcohol was enough to slightly impair the driver's judgment and exaggerate his emotional reactions.

Needless to say, it wasn't smart to take to the road in such a condition, especially for an instructor at a driving school. And, once caught, the incident made for some pretty embarrassing photos as well.

Although we're grateful to the traffic police for keeping the roads safe, we have to question their taste when editing photos...

One thing's for sure: after all this negative publicity, the school is unlikely to let him teach again anytime soon. A photo of the car the man was driving was among the pictures posted online, and it very clearly displays his company's name (Shengang Driving School) and logo.

A few netizens on Weibo commented that the instructor, surnamed Wan, should have tried to sleep it off before getting behind the wheel again, while others let the snarky comments fly:

小猪Daddy:No wonder the drivers now are so bad, look at the kind of people teaching them.

宁可踏空不被套:Shenzhen's most rubbish occupation: driving school drivers

One commenter, meanwhile, attempted to speak up on behalf of other, soberer teachers:

丁丁丁丁咚咚:Don't be prejudiced against all of them, there are still very good instructors.
