This Zebra Wants You to Stop Jaywalking in Shanghai

A mysterious zebra has appeared on a crosswalk on the intersection of Yishan and Hongxu Lu in Xuhui District. This is no ordinary zebra depiction, as it appears 3D when viewed from a certain angle.

While it has been reported that most people have walked by the zebra without paying much attention to it, we would imagine that it gave a few an extra pep in their step on their way to work this morning.

Who is behind this pleasant albeit unexpected addition to the streets of Shanghai? Some say it is a part of a recent campaign to decrease traffic violations, encouraging people to form good traffic habits and stop jaywalking. This starts from the sidewalk, with the pedestrians of Shanghai that typically think that crosswalks are “optional.”

We hope that a giraffe, or perhaps an antelope, will be joining the striped wonder soon.
