Last Wednesday, a 46-year-old caregiver was sentenced to death in Guangzhou for the murder of her 70-year-old employer back in December, 2014.

The convicted, named He Tiandai, allegedly killed her boss on her fourth day on the job – first poisoning her with a broth laced with insecticides, then injecting her with poison and finally strangling her with a rope, according to Beijing News. The murder was supposedly motivated by He’s desire to be paid early. care-giver-death-sentence.jpg

He was hired to tend to the elderly woman by a domestic service company based in Panyu District and was given a monthly wage of RMB2,600.

A police investigation found that He was a suspect in the attempted murder of nine other elderly people – seven of which died, according to Slate. It is presently unclear how He managed to get away with seven other murders before being caught.

A reporter from Beijing News visited He’s hometown in Shaoguan city, north of Guangzhou, and found that He had been reclusive. She reportedly dropped out of middle school and never came home after her family's objection to her marriage. He’s mother told the reporter she has “considered her daughter dead.”

He Tiandai did not defend herself during the trial, nor did she apologize for her crime. Upon the sentence, however, He shed tears and said, “I don’t appeal. No objections.”

“I killed people,” she said. “I will pay with my life.”
