Town Crier! is random snippets of Shanghai news that just may have an effect on your life...
Our beloved Lujiazui skyline just debuted its 126-story skyscraper Shanghai Tower Wednesday, revealing to the public just what RMB 14.8 billion can create. The world's second tallest building is expected to host tens of thousands of people for both work and play, boasting a hotel, swimming pool, museum and art gallery, and will be a venue for conferences and exhibitions, reports China.org.
Although it has been reported that the 35-floor gold plated annex at the base of the Shanghai Tower is the only area currently available to the public, entrance requires an express invitation letter. Currently, the Shanghai Tower is surrounded with hundreds of meters of fencing and security guards surrounding all entrances. Inside, red security belts block off several escalators that lead towards the top of the stairs.
It is rumored that it will be officially open to the public in May, although we have also heard that the grand reveal will be pushed back to June. Either way, we will keep checking in; we really want to try out the fastest elevators in the world that can travel at speeds of over 18 meters per second.
