Latest Chinese Body-Shaming Challenge Involves Pencils

Chinese netizens have used everything from sheets of paper to banknotes — and even the iPhone — to show off whether or not they meet 'ideal beauty standards.' Despite the backlash they've received, these memes continue take Weibo by storm, with the latest being the '2B Pencil Face' challenge.

The challenge calls for users to place two 2B pencils across their face. (2B pencils are usually 18 centimeters long). If your face is shorter and narrower than the length of the pencil, you are considered to pass the test. But this latest addition to body-related memes is a little bit different from others: 2B sounds like 'foolish' ('erbi' or 二逼) in Chinese, so this challenge takes on self-mockery undertones.

Still, some people do not see humor in the challenge. Some have even lashed out at the recent string of skinny body tests, saying that if people can pass them all, then they must look like Gollum from the Lord of the Rings trilogy.
