Last week, fishermen in Fujian unexpectedly caught a turtle weighing almost 70 kilograms in their net. The men were out fishing for fun when their net seemed ridiculously heavy. They subsequently pulled up a beautiful orange sea turtle.

The men dragged the turtle up onto the deck.

One of the fisherman reported the turtle to his local Bureau of Ocean and Fisheries, who identified the turtle as an Olive Ridley sea turtle, which are usually found in warm Pacific waters. The turtle is also listed a second-class nationally protected aquatic animal. As word of the turtle broke out across the man's town, he was given offers up to RMB10,000 for the meter-long sea creature. turtlereleased-1.jpg

People came to gaze at the size and beauty of the turtle.

However, the man refused all offers, on the basis that returning the turtle to the ocean would allegedly give him good luck and fortune. While the man could have made a small fortune of RMB10,000 himself, he released the turtle into the ocean, hoping that his good karma will come back around to him one day. release_turtle.jpg

The fishermen dragged it back into the ocean.

We're hoping that if the turtle is picked up by a rogue fisherman again, they will be equally as superstitious and morally righteous.

The turtle is finally released back to its home in the ocean.
