New Chinese Dating App is Exclusively for Hot People

Tired of meeting up with someone you met online to find out that they were a lot older and hairier than you had anticipated? China is proudly rolling out the red carpet for its latest social networking dating service: Xianrou. Nope, you aren’t mistaken in your translation – xianrou literally means “fresh meat,” a term growing in popularity and used to describe the babyfaced boys that are the latest craze in China.

True to its name, Xianrou is a mobile app catered to an exclusive, elite group: hotties. This is not a joke: the app requires administrative approval to join, and this approval is based entirely on some kind of ranking of how hot you are. According to a recent report from TechInAsia, the app only accepts visually attractive users after undergoing an application process. Although the app is still currently in its developmental stages, investors include some big names in the social media biz.

So it won’t be long before this highly offensive app is up and running in full force. But what exactly will all of these hotties be doing with each other? Janice Ian said it best in Mean Girls: “Drink[ing] awesome shooters, listen[ing] to awesome music, and then just sitting around and soak[ing] up each others awesomeness.”
