The US Embassy in Beijing is urging its citizens to exercise caution this Christmas due to possible threats to Westerners in the Sanlitun area.
The warning was issued via a US Citizens Services email and is also posted on the US Embassy in Beijing’s webpage:
“The US Embassy has received information of possible threats against Westerners in the Sanlitun area of Beijing, on or around Christmas Day. US citizens are urged to exercise heightened vigilance. The US Embassy has issued the same guidance to US government personnel.”
Images of what appear to be security vehicles and personnel at Taikoo Li have been circulating on WeChat but it's unclear if there's any relation between these images and the threats.
As of publication time, no information on the nature of the alleged threats had been released. Check back for updates as more details emerge.
UPDATED (3.25pm CST): The British, French and Irish embassies have also released similar warnings. Here's what the British embassy had to say:

UPDATED (8.21pm CST): The Chinese Embassy in the US has released a safety warning to its nationals in the US ahead of Christmas.
